William John Cowley (SS #067-07-3880) was born July 10, 1913 to David McCandless and Margaret H. Cowley while in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. At the age of 13, his mother died at the young age of 40 due to a possible ruptured appendix. Young William was sent to live with a Cowley aunt in the Philadelphia, PA area. He was baptized in 1926 into the Swedenborg religion just after his mother died. (While William's father was of the Swedenborg faith, his mother was Scotts Presbyterian).
On April 12, 1946 William was married to Ingrid (Marie Louise) Odhner. The wedding was performed in Bryn Athyn, PA by Hugo Odhner, a Swedenborg minister. He spent time serving in the military during World War II (as seen in the photo above), serial number 33473111. William eventually worked as an editor in the New York City area. He died on May 8, 1972 in Honesdale, PA after a battle with cancer.
Ingrid (SS #137-18-0146) was born on March 17, 1920 in New Jersey, USA to Loyal Daniel and Flora Waelchli Odhner. She was baptized at the age of 2 into the Swedenborg religion. At the age of 69 she died (May 1, 1989) while living near Bryn Athyn, PA. Her funeral was held at the Swedenborg cathedral in Bryn Athyn and her cremains were buried at the cemetery behind the cathedral. She and William had eight children:
